10th and Osprey Townhomes Mural Project
Project Overview
A new mural is coming to the corner of 10th Street and Osprey Avenue, on the façade of a residential building overlooking Gillespie Park. This highly visible wall, approximately 1,200 square feet, will be transformed into a work of art celebrating Florida Flora and Fauna, with a focus on local and native birds.
The project is part of the Florida Legacy Mural Series, an initiative that highlights the region’s environmental and cultural identity through site-specific public art.
Background
In 2024, residents of the building proposed a mural to beautify their community and contribute to Sarasota’s public art landscape. After review and approval by the Public Art Committee (PAC) in May 2025, the City issued a national Call to Artists through CallForEntry.org.
From 133 applications, a jury panel of neighborhood residents, community representatives, and City staff reviewed and scored all submissions. Ten semifinalists were identified, and from this pool, the top five artists were selected by the Public Art Committee to develop full-color concept designs. Each finalist received a stipend to refine their proposals for the site.
Meet the Finalists
Below are the five artists selected as finalists for the 10th & Osprey mural project. Each has provided a concept design that reflects the theme of Florida’s native plant and bird life while also responding to the building’s architecture and the surrounding neighborhood.
Sonny Behan (Miami, FL)
Truman Adams (Sarasota, FL)
Trinity Rivard (Tampa, FL)
Anne-Sophie Gaudet (Redwood City, CA)
Federico Massa aka Iena Cruz (Brooklyn, NY)
