City Commission may approve transmittal to the State Review Board for the State to provide comments within 30 days. Additionally, staff sends it to appropriate agencies for review. Transmittal hearing does not mean adoption. Once we receive comments from the State, the City can make updates based on those comments and coordinate the Adoption hearings.

The City of Sarasota will host three public Open Houses in October to share progress on the update of the Transportation Chapter of the Sarasota City Plan (Comprehensive Plan) and gather input from residents, business owners, and other interested members of the public. Each Open House will feature the same presentation and materials, giving participants multiple opportunities to attend at the location and date most convenient for them.

Transportation Ch: 2055 Transportation Objectives Public Workshop

With City of Sarasota’s population projected to grow by nearly 40% over the next 30 years, the City is updating the Transportation Chapter of the Sarasota City Plan to ensure the community’s future transportation, mobility, safety, and livability needs are met.

Residents are encouraged to attend a public workshop on Wednesday, August 21, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Selby Public Library, 1331 First Street, Sarasota, FL 34236. A formal presentation by the City’s transportation planning team will begin at approximately 5:10 p.m., followed by an interactive session where attendees can explore displays, ask questions, and share feedback.

The Transportation Chapter update will translate Sarasota in Motion, the citywide transportation master accepted in 2020, into formal policy. Sarasota in Motion outlines the City’s long-range transportation vision and project priorities, which were shaped by extensive community input.

The Transportation Chapter update process formally began following issuance of the Purchase Order and authorization for the consultant team to begin work associated with the Transportation Chapter update, transportation modeling, public engagement, and technical analysis.

City Commission Budget Hearings

City Commission approved the FY 2025 Budget, including funding associated with the Transportation Modeling effort and Transportation Chapter update process supporting the future transition from LOS to V/C Ratio methodologies.

City Commission Budget Workshop

  • Public Works and Planning staff presented the Transportation Modeling Budget Issue to the City Commission during the FY 2025 budget workshop process.
  • The presentation outlined the need to update the Transportation Chapter of the Comprehensive Plan, extend the planning horizon, and transition from LOS standards to a V/C Ratio framework consistent with FDOT and MPO methodologies.
