The City is working with Patel, Green, and Associates to complete a feasibility study and a conceptual design of the School Avenue Greenway Extension from Webber Street to Datura Street. This project is identified in the Capital Improvement Plan as well as Sarasota in Motion (SiM). SiM is the City of Sarasota's first ever master transportation plan and acts as a roadmap for future transportation investments.

This project is a proposed connection to an existing Multi-Use Recreational Trail (MURT) that begins at Siesta Drive and ends at Webber Street. The continuation would run parallel to School Avenue diverting vulnerable users from US-41, a major, high crash arterial, to an off-road Greenway.

This project is intended to provide a low-stress parallel route to US-41 giving an advantage to residents making local trip by bicycle, walking, or rolling. The Greenway would also serve recreational trips to the Westfield Mall, Arlington Park, Sarasota High School, among other destinations within the City.
