Meet the Artists
This piece centers on the amaryllis as a symbol of growth, resilience, and presence, responding
directly to the theme Where Home Takes Root. The composition reflects how strong foundations
support growth over time, allowing something to rise, develop, and fully bloom.
The plant is shown in multiple stages — from bud to partial bloom to full flower — representing
different generations and the way a community evolves. Each stage exists at the same time
, showing how past, present, and future are connected and continuously shaping one another.
The blooming stage becomes a key moment in the piece, symbolizing what is made visible when
a community is supported and rooted in place — a reflection of collective strength, care, and
continuity.
At the base, an abstract root system anchors the composition. These roots represent the foundation
of a community — history, culture, and shared experience — which may not always be visible,
but is essential to what exists above it.
The color palette is intentionally designed to work with the existing tones of the building, allowing
the mural to feel integrated into the space rather than placed onto it. Purple and gold are woven
throughout as a nod to cultural identity and place, while the surrounding tones create balance and cohesion with the architecture. Rather than illustrating community in a literal way, this work expresses connection through growth — showing how strong roots support generations and allow them to fully bloom.
