Our final design depicts the Amaryllis plants in a natural setting as in the many flower beds and gardens in the area. The plant is distinctive it it’s upright stance with tubular blooms. Native of South Africa, the Amaryllis is perfectly suited to SW Florida. A beautiful scene is a bed of thriving blooms fluttering in the breeze which is what our mural design depicts. Accompanied by flowers in the making and the iconic Amaryllis bulb, the entire composition is backlit and glowing against a cool violet background. Our inspiration comes from the people and community we have an opportunity of working with. Recognizing the importance of all lives, we find the commonalities and celebrate them through art. We accept the responsibility of educating ourselves by learning the identities, accomplishments and challenges known for a particular neighborhood. From there our design takes root. When designing, we start from square one with a concept, momentum builds, compositions take shape, and imagery comes forth. We take great pride in presenting how special a community like Amaryllis Park really is. Once in motion the project evolves like a performance. A high degree of planning and organization gives structure and foundation for painting a large-scale mural. The piece unfolds becoming a fabric of the community. As a husband-and-wife team, art like life, is a conscious decision we made that continues to present itself jointly to experience living in alignment with art as a larger vision, such as this mural has to offer. My husband and I are excited to bring our collaborative efforts full circle with this uniquely once-in-a-lifetime project. The history of Amaryllis Park and the historic Newtown neighborhood is well suited to our joint commitment to uplift environments with quality art that is socially impactful while remaining sensitive to cultural inheritance.
