The City of Sarasota Public Art Program, in partnership with the Sarasota Housing Authority, invites you to review and provide feedback on the five finalist mural designs for the Amaryllis Park Place affordable senior housing community. The selected mural will enliven the Orange Avenue‑facing façade and celebrate the history, identity, and aspirations of the surrounding community. Your input will help ensure that the chosen mural reflects the spirit, stories, and cultural vibrancy of the neighborhood.
About the Project
Amaryllis Park Place is a senior affordable housing development located at 1912 North Orange Avenue in Sarasota’s historic Newtown neighborhood. The selected mural will activate the Orange Avenue‑facing wall and celebrate the project theme “Where Home Takes Root.”
More than 70 artists applied for this opportunity. After review by a stakeholder jury, five finalists were invited to develop full‑color concept designs for community review.
Stakeholder Jury
A stakeholder jury representing neighborhood residents, arts leaders, and the Sarasota Housing Authority evaluated the semifinalists and helped guide the finalist selection. Jury members include:

David Morgan — Sarasota Housing Authority Board Member
Mary Butler — Amaryllis Park Neighborhood Association & Newtown CRA Board
Helen Neal — SRQ Strong Leader & Amaryllis Park Place Resident

Walter Gilbert — Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition (SAACC) Board Member
Bianca Clyburn — Public Art Committee Member & Neighborhood Resident
Ciera Coleman — Public Art Administrator, City of Sarasota

Following jury scoring and Public Art Committee review, the following five artists were selected to advance to the full‑color concept phase:
Finalists worked with neighborhood stakeholders and the Sarasota Housing Authority to develop mural concepts that center the community’s experiences, heritage, and sense of place.

We want to hear from you. Please review the final designs in the survey below and share your thoughts. Your feedback will help shape the final recommendation presented to the Public Art Committee.
